JD Power, the analytical agency, recently released the findings of its latest car reliability study in the American market, revealing Lexus and Toyota as the top performers. However, experts highlight an overall decline in the quality of cars, attributing it particularly to intricate multimedia systems and the electrical components of the powertrain.

The survey involved 30,595 car owners who had purchased vehicles three years ago, providing insights that differ from the previous year’s report, which had suggested an improvement in overall vehicle reliability.

Over the past year, the average number of reported faults increased from 186 to 190 per 100 vehicles. The occurrence of issues within the three months to three years after purchase rose from 12% to 17%.

Lexus and Toyota emerged as the most reliable car brands, according to the study. However, the prevalence of complaints about complex multimedia systems was notable, reaching 49 per 100 vehicles and nearly doubling the number of complaints for the second most common issue related to the vehicle’s body. Drivers also expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of active safety systems, citing occasional inaccuracies and potential dangers.

The study revealed a higher likelihood of problems with pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids compared to traditional hybrids and gasoline cars. Pure electric vehicles, in particular, exhibited an average of 256 malfunctions for every 100 cars.

In terms of reliability, the top three brands were Lexus (135 defects per 100 cars), Toyota (147), and Buick (149). On the other hand, Lincoln, Tesla, Volkswagen, Land Rover, Audi, and Chrysler found themselves at the bottom of the ranking.
